#1 - #15 Left to Right, row by row.

I rated each album, song by song, on first listen. The rating system is as follows. 3 stars was neutral with each star above or below being a point more or less, respectively. and then the total points was divided by points possible and the resulting percentages were compared against other albums and thus my list. in the event of a tie the album with more 5 star songs will be declared better. *also, the ratings aren’t based on percentages like grades are so a 6/10 isn’t a D… it’s actually a solid rating.

"I" - Official "Reformation" Album Version

Hello tumblr, and welcome to “Reformation.”

This quick, introductory track was written at a practice session to allow us to not only start off our set with a bang, but to also give us an album opener.

“I” is based of the following track’s rhythm and chord progression, just with a different take on the same idea.

"Lifeless: Left In The Wake" Official Album Version

As you may have seen if you have been following us for a while, this song is old! Having been released on our first EP “Dreaming The End” this song has existed in different forms for 3 or so years. I remember writing it in our guitarist Collin’s living room, quite a few other songs were written there as well. I believe there is a lot of inspiration in that house, partially because I think it is haunted. But superstitions aside, this song is now complete and I love how it turned out and evolved through our member changes. We played this song for the first time at the Cobalt Cafe on May 11th 2010. I imagine we’ve played this song at least 200 times since then, maybe even more. This song is about trying to stay confident despite feeling like you’ve been abandoned; and sometimes that means letting go of people/places/events that you thought were there to better you but only held you back from realizing your potential. WE ARE THE BROKEN, WE ARE THE FROZEN. But we are certainly not alone.

For anyone that sees this in a tag they follow, or happens to stumble upon it… please take a listen and let us know what you think. I am always interested to hear how other people interpret our music.

"Time" Official Album Version feat. Taylor Voeltz of Mureau

This song… I think this song had the most ambitious ideas behind it out of all the songs on our album “Reformation.”  Initially the goal of the song was to go through 9 different key signatures/modes and make it sound like it never really shifted from one to the other. I believe it ended up with 6 different tonal sections, most notably ending in Ab Minor when the bass tapping/singing section comes in. Also worth mentioning is that this songs lyrics became a sort of abstract acrostic poem (T.I.M.E.) about how life eventually takes what it gives, and there is nothing we can do to stop it. Taylor (Mureau) did such an awesome guest spot on this song, it quickly became everyone’s favorite part of the song.

"Elegance: The Wavering Light" Official Album Version

So here is our song “Elegance” in it’s final form. I believe this was one of the very first songs written after we completed the songs for our previous EP “Dreaming The End” but it wasn’t ready in time to be tracked at that studio. So we went on to release a demo version of the song on our soundcloud a few months later that was self-produced. However it was never played live until we got our new drummer Mike Homen. This song for the most part is one of our more straight-forward songs, until  we arrive at the bridge section that is. I believe there is a time signature change almost every bar. It gets pretty hectic, but adds an awesome amount of tension before the release back into the second chorus. I can’t wait to hear some people chanting that chorus back at me on stage.
